EXAMINATION OF THE CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF SOFTWARE PIRACY IN NIGERIA
ABSTRACT: The research on software piracy in Nigeria sought to investigate the underlying factors contributing to the prevalence of software piracy within the country. Its primary objectives encompassed analysing the impact of software piracy on Nigeria's economy, scrutinising the role of information and communication technology (ICT) in fostering the growth of software piracy, and exploring the intricate relationship between software piracy and the overall social well-being of Nigeria. The study employed primary data derived from the distribution of research questionnaires, with a sample size of 100 being selected for the study. The investigation employed the Pearson correlation methodology for the purpose of analysis. Consequently, the study reached the conclusion that the phenomenon of software piracy exerts a substantial impact on the economic landscape of Nigeria. The study further provided valuable recommendations to aid the federal government in the process of decision-making.
